Cubs News - Novemeber 2007

Bowling @ Megabowl – 30th November

We are bowling on Friday 30th November at Megabowl, Fountain Park. We will meet at 6.10pm so we can get shoes organised in time for the 6.30pm start time. Collection should be at 8.30pm.

Scout Post

We will be collecting cards at the Juniper Green Tennis Club on Friday 30th November, Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th December, from 6-8pm. The cost will be 19p per card. All proceeds are shared between the group that collects the cards and the group that delivers the cards.

Bag Pack

To help raise valuable funds for the group, their will be a bag pack at the Asda store, Chesser on Thursday 27th December from 12pm to 6pm.

Cubs should be in uniform and be supervised by a parent.

This is a very good slot for a bag pack, and we could potentially raise substantial funds off this 1 bag pack. So if you can help for a couple of hours at this bag pack it would be greatly appreciated.

For those of you that do not know me, my name is Martin Ormiston and I am the new Cub Scout Leader (CSL) for the 172nd Merchiston Scout Group. I was involved with the group for nearly 10 years (1995-2004), where I was leader at the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers at various points during that time. Prior to 1995, I was a Cub, a Scout then a Venture Scout in Newcastle before moving to Edinburgh for University. I have now settled in the area, having married a “local lass” and living in Livingston. I am a financial analyst and work for State Street. As yet I have no children, but I have a dog called Bouncer who, like my wife, is a complete maniac!

My pervious service as cub leader with 172nd Merchiston was very successful and enjoyable. The main focus for our cub pack was to ensure that the kids enjoyed themselves, whatever activity they were doing. The kids enjoyed themselves every night and very rarely missed any event – whether it be a cub camp or a hike in the rain! Of course, I didn’t do it alone and I had a fantastic support team during my leadership. I am certain the leader team I am inheriting will prove to be the same J! Either way, its all about the kids!

The first few weeks back will be more about me finding out where each of the cubs are at in terms of their training and scouting background. As the weeks go by and later in the term, the nights will become more structured, with the occasional excursion out of the School Hall.
